Well we are in the middle of the first Irish Summer Camp at Holy Cross. The children are having a blast and learning all about their culture and meeting new and old friends.
The Irish Summer Camps (where children from 5 - 14 are introduced to their whole Irish culture - language, tin whistle, fiddle,singing, dancing, crafts and so much more) run by Comhaltas Ceolteoiri Eireann - Langan Gorman Branch with sponsorship from the Irish Pot of Gold will be held daily from 9:00 - 3:30 - there is still room at the remaining two camps if you have not already enrolled. August 15 – 17 - CraicFest at J.P. Fitzpatrick's Irish Pub & Restaurant.
Durham Irish Association is working in partnership with Fitzpatricks on this fun event and we are very excited about it all.
The festival will run from Friday evening with Bill Dunne entertaining. Bill is a very popular singer/musician in Durham.
Saturday we will have Irish dancers from Maureen Mulvey O'Leary's School of Reel Irish Dancers.
Also on hand will be Tony O'Laughlin and his Irish Dancers all the way from Kingston. Tony will also host bodhran and Irish dancing workshops.
Eric Glenholmes will have a workshop on various Irish Art including Irish caligraphy. Various other musicians from the area will drop by and we are hoping many of our very talented Toronto artists will be along.
Also on Saturday there will be venders selling various Celtic ware.
Saturday night you will be entertained by O'Connor & Duffy with fantastic Irish music and songs.
Sunday will round out the weekend with Durham Irish Association's Family Jam Session. We are still working on other entertainment for Sunday but the band including O'Connor & Duffy plus other regulars will definitely be on hand to make it an exciting finale.
We invite all Irish artists to come to J. P. Fitzpatrick's Irish Pub & Restaurant at 75 Consumers Drive in Whitby (401 E. to Brock St. N. then E. on Consumers Drive; pub is in the AMC Theatre complex and just opposite the theatres).
